Description: Thanks to a reader who writes "This is a
brand new park that just opened in July '06. It has one amazing
feature - a fenced man made doggie beach with small rocks
instead of sand and a small pier for the dogs to jump off
of and into the water." For the dogs who prefer dry land
there is also a four acre dog park. There are lights for night
use and hoses to clean your dog. The dog park is open from
6 am to 10 pm. The dog park is located on the north-east corner
of Ray Road and
Greenfield.

Desert Vista Off-Leash Dog Park

Description: This 12 acre park offers a dog park for off-leash
romping. The area is fully fenced with multi-station watering
fountains and shade structures. Paws in the Park, an annual
dog festival, is held at this park. The park is located on
Saguaro Blvd., between Tower Drive and Desert Vista. To get
there, head east on Shea Blvd. Turn left onto Saguaro Blvd.
Go 1.5 miles and turn right onto Desert Vista. Turn left immediately
onto Saguaro Blvd. Go about .2 miles and then turn right onto
Tower Drive. The park is on the right. Thanks to ADOG (Association
of Dog Owners Group) for the directions. The hours are from
sunrise to sunset.

Description: This park has a rich natural and cultural history,
and was once used as a landmark by early explorers. There
offer picnic areas, ramadas, restrooms, a variety of trails
with varying difficulty and interests, historical markers,
playground, and the Civil War Re-enactment of 3 different
battles. The park is open from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Dogs
of all sizes are allowed. Dogs must be leashed and cleaned
up after, and they may not be left unattended at any time.
Dogs are allowed on the trails, but not in any park buildings.
They also have a campground (some sites with electric) with
grills and a dumpstation.
Tonto National Monument

Slide Rock State Park

Description: This day use park was put on the National Register
of Historic Places in 1991. In addition to sharing a rich
natural and cultural history, this park provides swimming,
picnicking, birdwatching, fishing (no glass bait jars please),
a nature trail and access to other trails, a volleyball court,
and special events and programs. Dogs of all sizes are allowed
at no additional fee. Dogs are not allowed at the creek, in
the water or at the swim beaches. The dogs are allowed to
go as far as the top of the stairs that lead to some of these
areas. They are allowed on the trails on lead. Dogs may not
be left unattended at any time, including being left in automobiles.
Dogs must be on leash and under control at all times, and
be cleaned up after.
Boyce Thompson Arboretum State Park

Description: This 323 acre park is Arizona's oldest and largest
botanical garden. They feature the plants of the desert, a
streamside forest, panoramic views, various natural habitats
and wildlife, a desert lake, specialty gardens, and more.
They also offer an interpretive center, a demonstration garden,
visitor center, guided tours, picnic grounds with tables,
gift shop, and restrooms. Well behaved dogs of all sizes are
allowed for no additional fee. They must be kept on a short
lead, under owner's control at all times, and cleaned up after.
Dogs are not allowed anywhere in the water or in the gift
shop. They are allowed throughout the rest of the park, and
may even join their owners on the guided tours. The park is
open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m (October 1 - April 30).
Summer hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (May 1 - September
30).
Chiricahua National Monument

Homolovi Ruins State Park

Description: This park now serves as a research center recording
the late migration period of the Hopi from the 1200's to the
late 1300's. Park facilities include a visitor center and
museum, various trails, and pullouts that provide opportunities
to observe wildlife over the 4,000 acres at an elevation of
4,900 feet. Dogs are allowed to go on all the trails, the
ruins, the park grounds, and the visitor's center. Dogs must
be leashed or crated at all times, and they may not be left
unattended in the park or automobiles. There is camping available
with hook-ups, several covered picnic tables, showers, and
a dump station.
Century House Museum and Gardens

Description: Purchased in 1890 by a pioneer merchant, this
home is now a museum of the history of the era, and the beautiful
Italian-style gardens and aviaries that were started back
then are still maintained today. They are open from Tuesday
through Saturday. Dogs are allowed to walk through the gardens
with their owners, and there is no additional fee for them.
Dogs must be on leash at all times, and cleaned up after.
Dogs are not allowed in the museum or any of the park buildings.
